I was curious about the timelords past, before omega's experiments the time lords did not possess the time travel technology, so presumably they werent always lords of time, so what werethey before this point

Also, is the ability to regenerate a natural act, or was it induced through technology, as different sources say different things, I always used to assume it was a natural result of evolution, but it seems a strange thing. Firstly, if it was natural, why do you get exactly 13 lives, or is this similar to having 2 arms, it is just genetics, and if technology, why 13 lives, is that the limit before the body degrades beyond regeneration, as some novles suggested that the doctor is on his 3rd set of regenerations

wow, I don't have the answers for you. However, I would love to know all that too. I'm very curious about the regeneration.

The truth is Time Lord is more of a title although over time it has been tossed around as a race enoguh to confuse the hell out of everyone. I'll try to help you out Nik.

Everyone on the planet Gallifrey is a Gallifreyan. If you attend "The Academy" and graduate you can become a Time Lord. Once you are a Time Lord you are given 13 regenerations by the council (or president/something like that). Regular Gallifreyan people who aren't Time Lords cannot regerate. After a time lord has used up his/her 13 regenerations it is possible to get more. The Master has been given another set of regenerations once (possible twice). The show has never stated what regenration "set" he is on.

There is also mcuh confusion regarding the Doctor's age. It has been stated that he is around 750 years old as well as 900.

Hope this answered your questions.

I remember atety one point a reference to rassilon founding the timelord society, implying they weren't timelords before rassilon

the doctors age variation is because at points he spends a few hundred yearsa without a companion or we just don't see them, how ling was the time war? he didn't have a companion through that

Yes, Rasilon created The Eye Of Harmony from the nucleus of a Black Hole and gave the Gallyfreyans the abillity to time travel, making himself the first of the Time Lords. Back then, the Time Lords were quite a nasty society, indulging in blood sports and such like (they used to kidnap people from differant races and put them in an arena to fight to the death. The only race they outlawed from the arena was the Daleks). After Rasilon died, the Time Lords became more peaceful and turned their efforts to Policeing the Time line and making sure what was supposed to happen, did happen.
